Welcome to the R.E.C. Room, Homer’s youth Resource & Enrichment Co-op…
We provide teens with a safe space to foster healthy relationships and make healthy choices. Teens 12-18 spend time with friends and access information about the resources, activities and programs available for youth in the community — all with the guidance of a Youth Development staff member. Staff are available to help youth connect with local resources for a variety of concerns, such as GED preparation, finding a summer job, or getting help for issues like violence or homelessness.
Ongoing programs include the FOrK Club (Fresh Organic Kitchen cooking classes) and Youth on Record (digital music production classes). In addition, the R.E.C. Room offers a teen education program, Promoting Health Among Teens (PHAT) in partnership with the State of Alaska. PHAT uses trained Peer Educators to teach a curriculum on making healthy choices, including abstinence, peer pressure, safer sex, and the effects of drugs and alcohol.
The R.E.C. Room and all its programs are always free to access. Stop by to hang out with friends, have a snack, get help with homework or use the computers.
