About Us and Our Mission

The R.E.C. Room (youth Resource and Enrichment Co-op) was established in 2010 to serve the youth of the community. It is an outreach program offered through the Kachemak Bay Family Planning Clinic and supported by Rotary.

Our mission is to facilitate healthy relationships, health education and healthy choices for youth in Homer.

The intention of the R.E.C. Room is to create a space for inter-agency co-operative involvement to help meet the needs of our most valuable assets, our youth. As the mission statement of Kachemak Bay Family Planning Clinic is met by providing broad access to health care education in a supportive and empowering environment, so too can the developmental needs of adolescents be met by offering a supportive and empowering environment. The after school program’s goal is to give students access to tutoring and creative arts exposure that might otherwise be cost prohibitive for some families. Staff and volunteers support the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District curriculum at the middle and high school level and offer enrichment experiences that encourage healthy choices and positive peer and mentor relationships.

The R.E.C. Room also serves as a clearing house of sorts for resources available to parents and youth advocates in Homer and the surrounding areas. We welcome your ideas and involvement in developing classes, workshops and networking opportunities. Contact us or come visit for more information or just to chat.

“At the R.E.C. Room (youth Resource and Enrichment Co-op), we help teens by providing a supportive and empowering environment that fosters healthy relationships, health education and healthy choices. In addition to offering our own education and activity programs, we serve as a resource hub for youth in our community, helping teens connect with other positive activities, opportunities, and social services resources.”
