Teens & Technology – Parent/Caregiver Workshop

March 15, 2024

Feb 1 2024 Parent Caregiver Night

Birds, Bees, & Beyond: Teens & Technology is a free event on April 2nd, 5:00-6:30pm at Kenai Peninsula College: Kachemak Bay Campus in Homer. Dinner will be provided. Topic Focus will be on Technology, Social Media, Online Safety for Parents/Caregivers of Teens and Preteens.

Because “The Talk” is never just a one-time thing, we hope that your presence will help in continuing these important conversations with the young people in your life!

Birds, Bees, & Beyond – is where your concerns, questions, doubts, triumphs, and networking can take place. This FREE discussion group will be facilitated by our Education Coordinator, Tyler Moskios-Schlieman. We all want young people to be and feel safe and happy, and according to decades of evidence, young adults report that PARENTS are the most influential factor in a young person’s relationships, sexual health, and personal identity. Not peers. Not media. Parents.

Parenting teenagers (and tweenagers) is, among other things, a very unique experience. Adolescence in itself is a stand-alone phase in life that lands in a gray zone between childhood and adulthood. Puberty, developing independence, dating for the first time – all of these life events aren’t always easy for the young person experiencing them, and parents need support, too!

Join other parents and caregivers for this quarterly workshop where we will work through real-life scenarios to answer questions you may have, such as:

  • How can I stay informed and educated?
  • What are the best ways to find balance with technology?
  • What should I be more concerned about, and is there anything I should be less concerned about?
  • How can I be more approachable?
  • How can I best explain my values to my teen?
  • How can I best address uncomfortable topics?

This quarterly meetup series will support those with teens in their lives to explore and address these issues, and more! This is the second ever Birds, Bees, & Beyond event. Keep an eye out for the next one in the late summer/early fall.
