Homer Breakdown.

What is it?

A free, sober, all-ages concert event happening on April 14th at the SPARC in Homer. Doors open at 3:30, and music starts at 4pm. Breakdown focuses on bringing fun and entertainment, while also providing messaging and awareness to mental health and the resources available right here in Homer. The event features live music from local bands Bed of Roses and The High Femmes, and talks from local mental health professionals. Food, prizes, and other activities are provided!

So how did Breakdown come about?

The idea for a REC Room concert came from one of our Peer Educators and during community planning sessions at LeadOn (a conference for peer educators across the state). We were representing Homer and asked what challenges the young people in our community faces. The top answers were: boredom and mental health. So we wanted to find a way to create a project that combined both of these challenges into something that could improve the community. That’s where Breakdown was born – a concert event featuring local bands that focused on bring awareness to the mental health struggles that Alaskan youth face.  Thanks to funding from ANDVSA (Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault), we are able to bring this idea to reality.

We invite everyone to come out of the winter months for some much needed celebration!
