It’s finally here! Pride 2022!
We are so excited for this year’s Homer Pride x Juneteenth and what that means for us here at the REC Room. We’ll be at WKFL Park tomorrow, June 18, from 12-3PM to celebrate Juneteenth x Homer Pride!
On June 3rd, we had our Come as You are dance in celebration of all of the unique and diverse identities we have here in Homer. We had everything from clothes you can wear, a bedazzle and makeup station, a space to just hang out and run around, and of course the dance floor!
It’s important for us to support our LGBTQIA+ friends and family, celebrate diversity, and to show that there are people who will love and accept you no matter what.
We believe in empowering and uplifting queer youth and amplifing their voice within our communities. We know that queer youth that live in places with open community support experience bullying and harassment based on their gender or sexual identity at a lower rates than those that don’t.
There are over 5,000 youth aged 13-17 here in Alaska that identify as LGBT and we want to continue to make sure the LGBTQIA+ youth of Homer know there is a place they can go with strong allies to support them along with other members of the Queer community. Tomorrow, this month, and really every day we must come together as one community and uplift and encourage each other to be ourselves and to be proud of it!
