Q: Is it bad to have sex too often?

A: Great question! We cannot say whether a certain amount of sex is “good” or “bad,” but we can say that there are limits and boundaries to how often one can have sex based on their own feelings and on their own body’s thresholds.

Starting with feelings: If you are being pressured into having sex more often than you are comfortable with, if a relationship depends on having sex as often as possible, or if it is taking away from you doing other things in your life that you love, then that would be the right time to speak with your partner about it, and create some clear boundaries.

Speak with your partner about it, and create some clear boundaries. Consent is the key to having happy, healthy, and safe sex!

As to how it might feel physically, there is a wide range of tolerable experiences by different people. So, if it is causing pain, chafing, irritation, too much soreness, even bleeding – anything that puts you in a place of hurt and pain – then that is probably having sex too often.

Consent is the key to having happy, healthy, and safe sex!
