“Quality out-of-school-time programs have always supported students’ academic, social, and emotional growth, but as we recover from the pandemic, these opportunities have never mattered more. We need bold action, especially for low-income students and students of color who have historically struggled to access quality afterschool programs and rich summer learning experiences.” – U.S. Secretary of Education, Miguel Cardona.

The REC Room is proud of providing a free and safe place for teens 12-18 to drop in, eat, warm up, meet friends and get involved in out-of-school learning and social time. If you have any questions, please contact Sierra our program coordinator at recroom@kbfpc.org to learn more about our programs.

“If it weren’t for my afterschool program,” Afterschool Alliance Youth Ambassador Angeles Mejia said to a packed auditorium at the U.S. Department of Education last week, “I wouldn’t be on this stage.” For Angie, afterschool has provided opportunities she wouldn’t have had otherwise – but just as importantly, it provides a place she feels loved, belongs, and in her words, “meets kids where they are.”
